Easy Guide

Quality Assurance Walkthrough: Our installers are all our in house employees. After every job a thorough walkthrough of the completed job will take place with the home owner. At this time any deficiencies observed would be corrected and signed off on before our departure from the jobsite. From this point any issues that arise would be covered by our excellent warranties.

Warranties: https://westernwindows.com/warranty/

Glass: Slight imperfections are normal. Minor scratches or defects, that do not significantly obscure vision, are deemed acceptable. Based on industry standard, if defects are not visible from two (2) meters back and are not in the main viewing area the sealed units are deemed acceptable.

Dust/Cleaning: Throughout the process of installing windows and doors fine dust can be blown into the house while the opening is bare. Dust can also be stirred up depending on what is required for the particular install. Our installers will clean up large pieces of debris and do a quick shopvac of the area but dusting and vacuuming is still usually required by the homeowner after the job is complete. If cleanliness isn’t to expected levels this should be addressed during the quality assurance walkthough.

Caulking/Offgassing: One thing to keep in mind when you are replacing your windows is that the caulking used to seal the gaps between the window frame and the wall may have a strong odor until it is fully cured. This is normal and does not mean that the caulking is defective or harmful. The curing time may vary depending on humidity and temperature. In some circumstances it can take up to a week or two to fully cure.

Furniture: Part of the preparation for getting windows installed is moving furniture away from working areas on the inside and outside of the house. After installation this furniture will need to be moved back.

Blinds/Window Coverings: All blinds and window coverings that were removed in the process of preparing your home will need to be re-installed after. If you are getting new window coverings this would be the time that the chosen supplier would be able to get their exact measurements for ordering. Pre-existing blinds do not always fit back in after the new windows are installed. In some instances blinds will need to be replaced or cut down at the home owners expense.

Paint/Paint Touchups: Any painting of trims or walls that are needed would be done after. This usually includes exterior battens, interior casing and in some cases interior walls.

Stucco/Brick: Old stucco and brick may be disturbed in the process of installing new windows or doors. Pre-existing surfaces can not be warrantied by Western Windows. In the rare event that Stucco flakes/breaks away or bricks get dislodged it would be the homeowners responsibility for the repair.

Tile/Grout: In the rare event that a tile cracks or becomes dislodged it would the homeowners responsibility to have it repaired. When it comes to grout; grout is quite fragile and will more than likely require touching up after.

Outside Debris: As part of our quality assurance walkthough the outside cleanliness will be inspected. If any cleaning is required it will be addressed at the point. In winter small pieces of debris may end up hard to see in snow. In this instance it may only be visible in the spring.

Humidity: New windows and doors do wonders for home efficiency however they do not guarantee that there will be no condensation or frosting. When temperatures get very cold, humidity will need to be monitored to ensure condensation is not an issue. Triple pane glass has significantly better resistance to condensation than double glass does. Here is a link to the humidity page on our website which also includes a document by the CMCH (Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation) on controlling humidity. https://westernwindows.com/window-condensation/

We are so happy with our new windows. This is our second install with Western Windows this year (patio door last spring and windows in our master bedroom this fall). The process from the beginning to the end - top notch. Excellent service and quality of workmanship. Great team- Joe, Darin and crews. I also appreciate the time taken and care in putting the window trim back on and absolutely no mess afterward. I look forward to working with Western Windows for the rest of our window replacements.
